About the Harp Guitar

The idea of the harp guitar has to have been around for as long as luthiers have been building guitar-like instruments, but the first true harp guitars were made in the beginning of the 20th century in America and Europe.  They are classified as having both a standard six-string neck as well as an extra set of sub-bass strings strung above the standard neck.  The bass strings are struck with an extended thumb and act as a “bass-harp“, creating deep bass tones and drones while melodies and rhythms are played on the standard guitar neck. The number of strings vary - some guitars have three or four bass strings; others have as many as twenty or more bass and treble strings.  Adam often performs on one of his two 14-string custom Harp Guitars, each designed by Adam and unique to the rest of the world: One built by Master Luthier Sean Wooley in France, and the other by Master Luthier Woodley White in Hawaii.
